As I discussed in my previous post, the song that I had listened to made me feel something. I could envision an entire story for my film opening. Because of this, I've decided to make a few changes to my original idea.
My main character will still undergo a grieving process because of love, but here is the change. He will not be sad because his love is not interested in him. He will be sad because his love, unfortunately, passed away. Yeah, I know it's REALLY sad, but that is what I heard in the music! Also, I think that it makes more of an emotional impact to be completely honest. My original idea of the main character grieving over someone who wasn't interested in him just sounds like the plot of one of those teenage soap operas. It actually reminds me of Degrassi, this really cheesy Canadian show. That is ABSOLUTELY NOT the vibe that I want to give off with my film.
Also, for one song to trigger such a poignant idea, it must be good. My original idea was boring. It lacked dimension. Again, I don't want to bore my audience with such a generic plot idea.
This generation is very impatient. Trust me, I know. If my film opening doesn't grasp the attention of my audience within the first two minutes, they won't even bother to watch the rest of my film. My goal is to have people want to see more after the film opening. I want them to ask questions and sympathize with my character. I want the audience to feel something! If that doesn't happen, then sadly I've done something wrong. With this new plot idea, I'm sure I'll spark up SOME emotion!
